Re: NetBSD 7.0 on Mac LC III

I'll install everything from scratch using the above files and post some
timing results.

John, please post the MD5 or SHA1 checksums for the above files.

MD5 and SHA512 files are there, too, and here are the checksums:

I was able to get a cross-compiler working on a MacBook Pro running
Debian GNU/Linux 7.8. Please let me know how to specify compile options
to cross-compile the above sets (for example "-Os -m68030").

I use mk.conf, but I believe it's -V CFLAGS="-m68030" with build.sh. I'll have to check.

Using the same kernel config file, the cross-compiler creates a kernel
that is within a few bytes of the kernel created on the LC III; however,
"BSD/Mac68k Booter" can only boot the cross-compiled kernel using the
option to boot the compressed version on Mac OS. It complains that the
kernel is not in a format that it can execute if the uncompressed
version on / in NetBSD is booted. Should this be reported as a bug?

Yes. I'm in the process of learning what I can about the Mac OS build environment for Booter. It seems we have a few issues - one is to fix Rob Braun's patches which allow certain Centris / Quadra models to use 128 meg SIMMs, and another is to deal with Booter claiming that the UFS partition isn't quite right, both when trying to use an ffsv2 filesystem and when using an A/UX root (not root and user) partition.

Thanks,
John
