This happened to me with XFree 4.2 while I was still running NetBSD 1.5.2.
Switching to -current solved it - somehwat. XFree now runs on the on-board
Ati Mach64 of my G3, but I actually want to use a spare Matrox Milennium
I've laying around[1]. The Matrox driver is still giving me this error -
any hints would be nice.

[1] I only have 2 MB of video memory, which limits me to 1024x768x16bpp.
1280x1024 would be very nice nice.
