Although I may need to installboot again before it will work.
I have one of these machines, that has been running
NetBSD-macppc/current for quite a while.
Right now I'm not sure whether it has finally died, but after a recent
powerfailure I does not generate any screen signal.
Probably needs a CUDA reset, mine pulled something like that a while
ago. Pull all power cables, remove the battery, let the machine sit
over night, put things back together and cross fingers.
Anyway to get It to run NetBSD i was never able to get it to boot from
a NetBSD CD. Although it was a bit flakey and typically required a few
attempts, I did a clean install (without using MacOS X) by booting
from the the two-disk floppy disk set that is part of the NetBSD
release for macppc.
Yeah, I never got the firmware to load anything from a CD ( and the
MacOS X CD boots the old MacOS way, bypassing OF ) and I couldn't be
arsed to use floppies - for that I'd have to write them either in
MacOS ( and install it first ) or write a driver for the Sun U10's
floppy controller ( yeah, that was before John Nemeth's work ). I
found netbooting comparably easy and straight forward, just pretend
it's a Sun with OBP3. Booting a machine like that from a sparcbook
looks kinda funny though :)
have fun
Michael
