Ok, so it's probably a bug in Xmacppc.
Out of curiosity - why do you want to use Xmacppc? It doesn't offer  
any acceleration and uses whatever colour depth the console runs in,  
usually 8 bit.

You can always change that. If your monitor doesn't support DDC2 just  
add its frequency ranges to the Monitor section and pick whatever  
mode you want.
