COMPAT_LINUX in GENERIC?

Hi,

I have recently discovered the painful way via having a pkgsrc
bulk build bomb out after completing 65% of the packages that
(see tech-pkg@ for a longer explanation) the GENERIC kernel does
not have COMPAT_LINUX turned on.  Can anyone see a good reason it
should not be?
