I have a quad-core Power Mac G5 that I'm thinking about pushing

So, I have two main questions:
1) Does NetBSD/macppc run (well?) on this hardware?
No.
2) Is there a way to dual-boot Mac OS X and NetBSD, so that I could
install/test NetBSD while still being able to get back to my stable
and familiar OS X installation?
Sure. It's a bit hairy but nothing keeps you from having more than one
operating system installed. NetBSD can even live in an APPLE_UFS
partition although journaling won't work with that.
Since OF3 doesn't need any settings changed the only difference
between booting OSX and NetBSD is the actual boot command, I left the
OSX settings active on my G4, only set auto-boot? to false, that way
'boot' starts OSX ( I left it like that because I can never remember
the right voodoo to boot OSX ) and NetBSD needs parameters ( which I
have no trouble memorizing and I need to boot different development
kernels all the time anyway ). You can store them as a custom command
in nvram but so far I've been too lazy to do that myself.
have fun
