Hi, maybe any of the Apple specialists knows what to do:After a bad kernel crash my PowerBook5,6 no longer enters OpenFirmware anddoesn't play the startup chime anymore. It shows a grey screen with an Apple icon instead.I can still enter OF with Alt-Cmd-O-F, though. There I tried to reenableauto-boot by: setenv auto-boot? falseBut it didn't help. The variable was reset to false on the next reboot. ThenI also changed: setenv use-nvramrc? true But same problem again. Also this variable was reset. What can I do? And I want my startup-chime back! ;)
Power up with command-option-P-R down, this should reset nvram, the PMU etc. and then reset the machine. So, if you keep holding them down you should get the startup chime every couple of seconds ;) Also, many powerbooks have a button to reset the PMU, usually it's hidden somewhere ( on the 3400 it's hidden among the ports on the back of the unit, very easy to miss. It may also sit behind a hole ) - you may want to dig up some docs and check that too.
