Hunting the ahc boot-time panic
I finally found time to start hunting for the change that causes the
kernel to panic upon attaching ahc.
The first thing I found is that a host running up-to-the-second HEAD
can't build older toolchains, even with completely clean tools/obj
directories (rm -rf'd).
I still have a system running 5.1_STABLE and it can build the toolchain
but it's slower (933MHz P-III) and the source tree is on NFS over a
wireless connection so it takes about 24 hours for a clean build.
Not having any better idea of where to start, I started with sources
from 201101010000Z. This is 5.99.42 and it boots without problems.
Since I know that sources from about 201108010000Z don't work, I'm
trying to do the binary-search thing. Sources from 201105010000Z
don't build due to some undefined references in some library (at
least trying an update build). Backing up to 201104130000Z gets
further but fails due to a missing source/header file.
Retrying 201104130000Z with a clean build now.
