All 3 options. Yes, they degrade performance but don't make the machine
unusable. You only need them while we debug this. I run with them all the
time but my machine is quite beefy.

It will just print messages on the console or panic on the regular
console.

Could be, but it could even make it worse and it will happen more frequently.

Most locks are not there anyway. I am not sure if locks are optimized to
NO/OP on ppc.
