I've moved the stuff I wrote up over to Sourceforge:

The page now includes the crunchgen and kernel configs
and a makefile to build the rootfs.  There's also an 
example firmware image in the download area just in 
case anyone wants to try it.  The firmware is 
suitable for loading to DRAM (no CSYS header).
