Hi,
Please take a look at one of existing MIPS ports.  You'll be surprised at
how easy it is to get a working system ported, at least partially.  I was
able to do a working port to a custom designed board in less than two day's
using the evbmips port as a baseline.

That's the main reason why I've chosen NetBSD as my OS of choice for my
custom designs.
