NetBSD/hpcmips 9.0 z50 PCMCIA?

Did anyone have any success using PCMCIA cards on the Workpad 
z50 with NetBSD/hpcmips 9.0?

I have tried several devices that used to work in earlier 
versions, but all fail with different symptoms.

A NE2000 PCMCIA card is detected at first, but then lost
("ne0: where did the card go?").

A Xircom CE3 card is detected, but media always stays disconnected.

I have a couple of old 802.11b cards, but all of them get an 
"wi0: init failed".
