I'm not sure if I would be able to fix it, but I'm happy to commit to
helping narrow down the point it failed (including building kernels
from source between release versions).

Testing ideas based on comments so far:
- 7.0, 7.1, 7.2 & 8.0 kernels (as mentioned before, this should all be
possible from a single 7.x install and just switching boot kernels)
- Upload to https://dmesgd.nycbug.org/index.cgi for posterity would be nice :)
- If you have other devices (CF card in adaptor?) that may be helpful
- Any difference in behaviour booting with the card in place, or
booting without and inserting & removing after

I wonder about other pcmcia hardware - does anyone have a DEC Multia handy? :)
