Hi Saku,
You have it running -- Excellent!!! There isn't a NetBSD root
filesystem to continue with, that is why init fails
What you need to do to get a full system running is:
Download diskimage.gz from ftp.netbsd.org:/pub/NetBSD/arch/mipsco/snapshot/=
20001004/installation/diskimage
Unzip the image and dd it to the start of a SCSI Hard disk. You can
attach the disk to the Mips machine at ID 1 and use dd from RISCos to do
this (from memory it is partition 10 in RISCos), or use another UNIX
machine with SCSI support.
I see you have a few disks on the machine so if you are prepared to blow
one away for a good cause...
With drive attached at the boot prompt type:
boot -f dksd(,1,8)boot (1 =3D SCSI ID of disk drive)
(you can also use 'setenv bootfile dksd(,1,8)boot' then type boot)
This will load a standard NetBSD install kernel onto the machine and you
can install the images from the 20001004 snapshot. Before you do that
you have to change the disk partition settings. The way I do it is as
follows:
- At bootup note the disk geometry data printed by the kernel
- From the NetBSD install menu select the option to escape to UNIX shell
- type "disklabel -i sd1"
- Type I to setup new disk geometry data
Answer the geometry questions
- Type "W" to write the label and "y" to fonfirm
- Type "Q" to quit disklabel
- Type "^D" to return to sysinstall menu
The following procedure should work. After the install has completed you
can boot the system like you did the install kernel.
Appologies about there not being a later snapshot available. I hope to
update the installation documentation and build a new snapshot shortly now
that teh VM and SCSI subsystems have stabilized.
Regards,
Wayne
