i have the same problem:
when i boot from the disk (bo 0), vmebus error
i think that i have a modified rom.
when i type env to configure the environement
i have more  question than you.
but at the boot the vme told me :
Monitor/Debugger Motorola .....

so i have to make use of booting on tape
and enter sd0a as root device.

altought, everything goes well.
