Hello everyone,
I've got a problem installing NetBSD/mvme68k 1.6.2 onto a MVME167-31A.
I followed the installation procedure in
ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/NetBSD-1.6.2/mvme68k/INSTALL.html
which very nicely explains the whole process. I'm trying to install via
NFS/ftp. I'm already past the point of partitioning the hard drive. This
is what the kernel had to say about the hard drive:
sd0 at scsibus0 target 3 lun 0: <DEC, RZ57 (C) DEC, 5000> SCSI1
0/direct fixed
sd0: 954 MB, 1928 cyl, 15 head, 67 sec, 512 bytes/sect x 1954050 sectors
When the install script starts to prepare the drive for installation,
the command
/usr/mdec/installboot /mnt/.bootsd /usr/mdec/bootxx /dev/rsd0a
crashes with 'bad magic number'. After that, the installation dies with
a signal 11 and a core dump putting me back to the command prompt.
Any idea why this is?
However, I made this observation: after netbooting the miniroot, edlabel
shows the following geometry of the disk which dffers from the
information given by the kernel:
edlabel> p
type_num: 4
sub_type: 0
type_name: RZ57 (C) DE
pack_name: fictitious
bytes/sector: 512
sectors/track: 67
tracks/cylinder: 15
cylinders: 1928
sectors/cylinder: 1005
partition start (c/t/s) nblks (c/t/s) type
a (root) 0 (0/00/00) 0 (0/00/00) unused
b (swap) 0 (0/00/00) 0 (0/00/00) unused
c (disk) 0 (0/00/00) 1954050 (1944/04/62)* unused
edlabel>
This is the partition table after the installation crashes. My
partitioning vanishes after the crash.
Any ideas/pointers would be greatly appreciated as there is no answer to
this yet on the net.
TIA & Regards
