Do we have on NetBSD PC532 (or FreeBSD-scsi mail list etc) a
SCSI disk format / verify / sector reallocate tool ?
Maybe something based on an extension of FreeBSD /sbin/scsi by
Julian Elischer julian@tfs.com julian@dialix.oz.a	?

Quoting head of FreeBSD `man 1 scsi`
] scsi - simple program to assist with scsi devices.
] usage: scsi -f devicename [-d level] [-i] [-r [-b bus] [-t targ] [-l lun]]
] where r = reprobe, i = inquire, d = debug
] If debugging is not compiled in the kernel, 'd' will have no effect

My Background:
I was given a reject 200M disk that suffers from overheating,
( so formatted it cold, on my FreeBSD i486 Adaptec 1542B,
& now run it on my PC532-NetBSD with a fan blowing continuously on it,
but it still suffers intermittently from heat, so after building a
backup boot system on it, & booting, fsck aborted with a
CANNOT READ: BLK, leaving system in single use mode, (whilst not ideal,
this seems sufficient as an emergency reserve boot :-)

I will need to issue scsi commands fairly often to this disc,
& I neither want to:
	- to boot dos on my i486 to run debug & call adaptec scsi controller
	  bios (g=dc00:6), + move disc from 532 to 486
	- halt the PC532 and issue scsi commands from a rom monitor
	  (though I've done it before).

The requirement is a C program, runable from a multi-user platform.
Ideally it exists in alpha/beta somewhere, but if not, I wouldn't mind
writing something, I'd hate to junk the disc.

Comments ?

PS	I used a wide CC:, you may want to trim before reply.
PPS	If you reply to this on the current*@sun-lamp.cs.berkeley.edu lists,
please CC me personally, as though I'm supposedly subscribed to
at least one of these lists, (so majordomo informs), in practice
	I receive nothing from them.
