Well, I have the miniroot fairly well configured and I've extracted
util.tar.gz on top of my new root.
Pretty spiffy, guys!
Now I need to download the rest of the distribution and have hit a
snag..
There are no serial devices in /dev and no mknod command!
I'm one of those folks who has all available serial ports but one in
constant use, so I figured what I'd do was simply ifconfig/slattach
another serial device and then swap serial connectors on the 532,
doing without a console for awhile. But then I ran into the
aformentioned problem with missing /dev/tty* devices and now
I'm kinda stuck.
I know, I know, I should really wait for Phil's all-singing,
all-dancing NetBSD 1.1 installation and when that's out I *will* load
it, but heck - I'm a hacker! I haven't had this machine powered up in
years, and now that it's working I can't stop screwing around with it! :-)
Anyway, I was just curious to know how other folks got through this
little problem. I suppose I could use the miniroot trick again and
download other collections like bin and sbin until I have enough
in place to go forward. This is an 8MB machine, after all.. :-)
