Sorry, that's an artefact of my tries to make -mrtd work for the kernel.
I thought I removed all this stuff from the patch, but missed that one
line :-(

I don't know. My original bcopy/memcpy/memmove had a bug that would show
when (dst - src) <= 3. Ian provided me with the necessary information
to fix the bug (in other words, he did all the hard work and I just added
a couple of lines).

I think you bump the minor only, when you add new functions. That way
programs using the new fucntions will refuse to work with the old
library missing the function. It is (afaik) not necessary to bump
the minor for bug fixes.
