I misspoke, /etc/group is in etc.tar, which I got from
the snapshot. Let me try and deduce this better
head -9 /etc/group from the latest snapshot: (in etc.tar.gz)
wheel:*:0:root
daemon:*:1:daemon
kmem:*:2:root
sys:*:3:root
tty:*:4:root
operator:*:5:root
bin:*:7:
news:*:8:
wsrc:*:9:
Selected lines from gunzip -c base.tar.gz | tar tvf - from the snapshot:
r-xr-xr-x 3/4 66392 Jul 16 01:44 1997 ./bin/mt
r-xr-xr-x 3/4 220420 Jul 16 01:44 1997 ./bin/mv
r-xr-xr-x 3/4 385076 Jul 16 01:44 1997 ./bin/pax
r-xr-sr-x 3/6 286284 Jul 16 01:44 1997 ./bin/ps
r-xr-xr-x 3/4 64700 Jul 16 01:44 1997 ./bin/pwd
r-sr-xr-x 0/4 301456 Jul 16 01:44 1997 ./bin/rcmd
r-xr-xr-x 3/4 320848 Jul 16 01:44 1997 ./bin/rcp
r-xr-xr-x 3/4 33116 Jul 16 01:56 1997 ./usr/bin/mset
r-xr-xr-x 3/4 23072 Jul 16 01:54 1997 ./usr/bin/msgs
r-xr-sr-x 3/6 96948 Jul 16 01:54 1997 ./usr/bin/netstat
(For reference from the snamp /etc/passwd user id 0 is root,
and 3 is bin)
Now, it makes no sense to me that these would be group
tty, or that ps and netstat are setgid to a non-existant group.
To document how I got to where I am:
Created a 1.2 miniroot on rz0.
Booted rz0.
Labeled rz1.
newfs'ed a / and /usr on rz1.
Uncompress base.tar, etc.tar, comp.tar, misc.tar, text.tar from
the latest snapshot onto the new / and /usr.
Run "MAKEDEV all" on the new /dev.
Copied snapshot kernels to new /.
Boot off rz1.
It's quite possible I've done something stupid. Ideas?
