Hi,
I don't know where you got the 1.2G kernel from August, but it is very
out-of-date. Installation from 1.2G snapshots is no longer supported.
The latest NetBSD 1.3_ALPHA snapshot has a different install method,
better instructions (at least, some sample NOTES that are enough for
many people to follow; Simon Burge is working on complete install
notes) and an automated, menu-driven, curses-based install/setup
program called sysinst.
It's also *much* more robust than the August snapshot.
You can get it from ftp.netbsd.org in the
~ftp/pub/NetBSD/NetBSD-1.3_ALPHA/pmax
directory, at least until BETA snapshots are available.
