I bet you're linking ncftp with -lposix.  There's a rename(2) in both
libposix.a and libc.a.  That will definitely trigger the
duplicate-symbol bug.  (perl ran into this bug with rename(), too.)

Either upgrade to 1.3.1, or link statically.
