To expand a little more on that:

Large back-to-back NFS packets do appear to work now.  I'm using an 8k
block size again.  However, it stills dies with `panic: receive 1'
occasionally.

It's conceivable that there's a compiler bug lurking in here.  GCC 2.7
definitely has problems on the PowerPC with 64-bit values, and this
only seems to happen with NFS, not with other network traffic.

It's getting very close...
