Re: USB Keyboard not functioning on Wii

It shouldn't be asking for the root device, so it sounds like something else is going here. How are you booting it?

Assuming you're using Homebrew Channel to launch it, you need at least version 1.0.7. I have only tested with 1.1.3, so I'd suggest just updating to that if unsure.

If that doesn't solve the problem, you need to provide more info:

 - What version of NetBSD? What's the build date?
 - Capture any boot logs you can, either by ssh'ing to it and copying
/var/run/dmesg.boot or if you can't do that, at least a photo of the
screen asking for the root device.
 - What model Wii is this?
 - What model keyboard?
 - Does the keyboard work on other NetBSD systems?
 - Do other keyboards work with the Wii?
 - Was the keyboard plugged in when you booted it? Can you try plugging it
   in after you boot?
 - Do other USB devices work?
 - What model SD card are you using?

Take care,
Jared

Hello, I recently installed NetBSD on my Wii.
I observed that no matter what keyboard I use, it is not able to be typed with. During
the boot process, it asks me for the root device, and the keyboard works perfectly fine
there. But immediately after that, the keyboard ceases functioning, and I cannot use it
to log in.

I looked into it, and an instance similar to this was due to the onboard OHCI
controller not being supported, and a USB hub was required. I do not have access to a
USB hub at the moment, so I couldn't test this. I found out that the OHCI support was
added in September of 2024, but/ even though I'm running the latest daily build, it's
not working for me.

The keyboard is still powered after it stops functioning, as the caps lock light stays
stuck on if I press that key before it stops working. If I replug the keyboard, the
following sometimes gets printed to the output: "uhub0: device problem, disabling port
x". I have tried both USB ports, but the same thing happens.

Please let me know if I am missing anything important, thank you.
