Re: 43p: Install kernel boots, generic not

Hi,

I keep answering my own questions... Sorry, I hope this monologue does
help other people.

I found out what the problem was/is: apparently, the firmware seems to
have a limit for the file size it can boot. It's somewhere below 2M.
I was able to boot my 43p with a kernel build by this configuration:

--------------------snip----------------------------------

Obviously, I had to comment out some nice network features to get
below 2M, but I think there are other areas which could be cut down
(PCMCIA comes to mind) when someone needs these features.

Now, I understand why the boot code carries that unfinished stuff: with
that working it would be possible to circumvent the firmware limit!

Anyway, I would like to generate installable sets for others to
download, but should I simply change the GENERIC config file in
usr/src/sys/arch/prep/conf? I think it would be better to add another
optionally installable kernel, but I am at a loss how to add that
to the distribution sets of kernels. Somebody knows what the preferred
way would be?

TIA,
Uli
