Hello,
I hope to convert my recently acquired SS10/51 to NetBSD/sparc
soon (need to swap out some incompatible hardware), and would greatly
appreciate some suggestions on transitioning from it's current setup to
NetBSD 1.3. First, the hardware: SS10 w/single SM51, 64M ram, 2G hd (hd
1), 4G hd, GX (unused), TGX, ext. CD-Rom drive, and a 17" monitor.
It was shipped with Redhat linux 4.2, installed on the first (2G) hard
drive. I plan to wipe this out sometime next week, when I attempt the
NetBSD install.
Please feel free to correct anything here ->
I currently have the following plan for installation:
a> set up a small partition (20M or so) on the 2G hard drive, and dd the
miniroot to that. b> configure the 4G hard drive to be sd0, and the 2G
to be sd1. c> boot from the 2G hard drive and (hopefully) into the NetBSD
install utility. d> set the hard drives up, ftp the sets from a local
server, install, and, with some crossed fingers, be on my way.
This is my current thinking on the planned fs structure:
(sd0 - 4G)
/ 50M
/var 150M
swap 256M (planning to upgrade to 128M sometime)
(should I bother with a /tmp fs?)
/usr 2000M - "just right", or overkill for full src install?
/usr/local ~1500M
(sd1 - 2G)
/usr2 1000M
/home 1000M
On a side-note, is anyone interested in working on a driver for
the DBRI ISDN/audio codec? Unless I'm mistaken, the latest and greatest
linux kernel of the week has "dbri.c" and "dbri.h" under
./drivers/sbus/char. If nothing else, it should provide a starting point
for development of a driver if one does not already exist in -current.
Thank you in advance,
Daniel Frasnelli
