Last night, I attempted to upgrade my home SPARC LX (96MB RAM, 2 FSBE/S
controllers, headless) from 1.2G to 1.3.1. This failed utterly. Independent
of the network usage, I had hard-hangs from doing things like "dd" using
the GENERIC kernel that came in the binary distribution while in
single-user-mode with no network (or anything else) fired up at the time.

I decided to install 1.3 instead. That works just great so far on the
binary GENERIC kernel. I have downloaded the sources, and will be compiling
a kernel with my "special" set of options (mostly a fixed disk layout and
NETATALK) in the next day or so.

However, my latest experiences tend to suggest some unhappiness in the disk
drivers between 1.3 and 1.3.1. Perhaps reading the diffs will provide some
enlightenment. Paul, what were the major changes in the esp driver and the
generic SCSI subsystem between 1.3 and 1.3.1?
