I found the culprit: there was still an older version of egrep which
didn't like the pattern and returned nothing, so HAVE_GCC28 was not
set which led to -Wno-main not to be included in the CFLAGS line.

hrmpf, I should have a closer look at the protocols of the make -k
builds I do (or avoid the -k...) grumble...
