I have one of these in a ss5/170 and the hme performance is abysmal. I'm
lucky to get 2.5-3mb/second out of it, and if it's going flat out, the
machine is almost unusable.

Maybe that's why they are cheap :-)

(I haven't yet had a chance to put this into an Ultra 1, to determine
whether it's the card or the lack of CPU power).

From memory, those cards only work in sun4m/u.
