yes - there is a nifty way to install netbsd by writing the miniroot to a swap 
partition then you point the bootloader at the correct partition and away you 
go. it is documented here:

you should have a pen and paper handy as well as a calculator for working out 
disk and partition geometries but its not rocket science...

i havent done it for a while but i dont imagine the procedure has changed 
much... must reinstall my classic at some point too...
