They can be used to connect sun monitors to sun systems that
have a VGA connector. eg systems with a PCI graphics card.

Generally the sun monitors will only run at a single frequency
(950x1100x76 or whatever it is).  I particular they definitely
won't show a 640x480x60 VGA screen.
There may also be issues with separate synch / synch on green.
