I thought that was on a cg14, not an s24?

Yes, using Xsun24 will be. Unaccelerated deep colour is.
My X patches include an Xs24 server, which supports simultaneous 8bpp
and 24bpp windows, so you can get 8-bit speed for applications that are
not colour-intensive while still having 24bpp colour available. (It
doesn't yet take advantage of the s24's stipple and blit capabilities;
restricted as they are, they could help some....)
