Ok.. I finally bit the bullet... The SparcStation2 I've been having trouble
with getting compat_solaris working on is finally going away.. I went down
to the University of Michigan Disposition building today and picked up a
Sparc Ultra2 workstation.. As far as I can tell, it has the Creator3D vid
card in it, 128M RAM, and a pair of 168 MHz processors. I paid $75 US for
it.. and a Type 5 keyboard and a sun ball mouse.
Here's the questions..
1. Is the Creator3D vid card going to be supported in the near future, or
should I yank the CG6 out of the SS2 and toss it in there to get video?
2. How hard is it to set up SMP? I've never worked on an SMP machine before.
3. (Sacreligious question warning) Would it just be easier to get a copy of
Solaris 9 to get SMP and the kewl video card to work, or should I tough it
out for a couple months until the Creator3D is supported, if it's going to
be supported at all.
4. Any caveats on these systems I need to know about?
I know, it's a Sparc64, and not a Sparc, but I figure there's got to be
someone on this group who's got experience with both platforms.
Thanks in advance.
