The pthread_* stuff you cited is only in -current, not in 1.6.x.

It is working for sparc pretty good, AFAICT. There is a slight floating point
problem that might be thread related (but I haven't retested lately, nor
managed to file a PR) but obviously you would not care about that in your
application ;-)
