I completely agree. While I think GENERIC should still offer support for all
the available processors, and default to a set of build options that is the
most compatible, we should provide configs tailored to each of the older
machine types.
In those, we should elide any devices that are incompatible with the older
chips. I'm not sure how many that is really, but I would expect a few devices
that you would see on a 4d or 4m might never be seen on a 4c.
Also, with 4m machines, could we not default to -mcpu=v8, and leave the others
commented. If we break them apart, then we should default to the -mcpu setting
that gives the maximum performance without breaking some of the CPU
possibilites for that model.
