Can you give us some more info on the exception? The easiest way would be
to hookup a serial console to your machine so that you can copy and paste
the messages.

No, that's the only source code you need.

Have you tried using the releng-built GENERIC.MP kernel? - you can find it
in sparc/binary/kernel/netbsd-GENERIC.MP.gz at your local NetBSD mirror.
Just install and boot as you did with the custom kernel.
I've got a number of MP sparc machines and they all work fine with 2.0.2 (I
even netboot the GENERIC.MP kernel when installing them :)
