I forgot to say I do have an U10 :)

good, now I have a nice green/white screen with keyboard working.
FYI, the wsconsctl still doesn't work:
# wsconsctl -w encoding=fr
wsconsctl: WSKBDIO_SETENCODING: Invalid argument

well... my problem is that there're no /var/log/XFree86.0.log
generated... all I have is a message on the console (with your
XF86Config and mine - workin on the same machine with obsd/sparc64):
########################################################################
# startx
xauth: (argv):1: bad display name "cumin.domain.tld:0" in "list" command
xauth: (stdin):1: bad display name "cumin.domain.tld:0" in "add" command
Fatal server error:
no screens found
giving up.
xinit: Connection refused (errno 61): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.
xauth: (argv):1: bad display name "cumin.domain.tld:0" in "remove" command
########################################################################
ktrace/kdump show startx goes "normally" (I think)...
