I've tried this on my Sun Ultra-45 and the machine promptly crashed
with the first attempt, so I filed pr/58936. 

My machine got a little further. Also, on UltraSPARC-IIe machines (I tested
two Sun V100s), the build process simply dies with sig11 and the system is
ok.
