Ok, so one of the machines is a Sun running 4.1.1...what's the other
one? Is that with tcp or udp? After running ttcp, what does `netstat
-i' tell you on each machine? I mean, 2mbits for a sun3 isn't
terrible...just for quick comparison (I haven't done a datailed
analysis), an ftp between two 486-66 NetBSD-current machines with
16-bit SMC ethernet cards, both on the same relatively low-collision
subnet achieves roughly 4.5mbits/sec.
While ttcp is a useful program (we use it to test the speed of classical IP
over ATM links a lot here...), it's output really isn't the only factor
to consider when evaluating the overall performance of your network.
