This happened to me also.  I have a 3/50 w/ the 68881 and running 
diskless w/ linux serving.  I erased my swap file temporarily to create 
enough disk space to unpack the comp package on my drive. I neglected to 
remake the swap space before I rebooted and experienced the same error 
you are having. There was some limited functionability of the system, but 
it did finally crash (I messed around with it a while to see how long it 
would keep going).  Needless to say adding the swap file back solved the 
problem.  So I guess where I'm going with all this is that maybe your 
swap space isn't large enough (I'm assuming your 3/50 has 4M, so swap 
should be a minimum of 8M).  This is purely a guess on my part, so I 
could be _completely_ wrong.
