I don't know about fixes, but I do know that the problem is simply that
there's no "/dev/console" on your miniroot.  If you're dd'ing the
miniroot to a swap partition from another OS instance already on the
root disk then you might be able to (in single user mode) mount that
miniroot and run "cd /dev; sh MAKEDEV" to get the minimal device nodes
to appear, then boot off the ``repaired'' miniroot partition.

I think there were similar problems on NetBSD/sparc IIRC, and perhaps
they were only fixed there and not in a generic way so that sun3
miniroots would also be fixed.
