Hmmm.... thanks for the hint.... I learn something every day!
The 'unstuff' tool from pkgsrc/archivers/stuffit seems to do the trick,
as does 'macunpack' from pkgsrc/archivers/macutil.
xpdf-1.0 does read the file just fine without 'unstuff', BTW.
This document, BTW, is one where gv with antialiasing does a better job
of making the fonts more readable than they are with xpdf (even on my
8-bit display), albiet with a lot more CPU horsepower required to do
so....
