I hate it when that happens.  Tantalums of that vintage are definitely something to look out for, but it’s not often that they go on a 5V rail, I’ve seen it much more often on 12V rails (usually because someone was trying to save a few pennies and using 16V-rated caps).

I recently acquired a Quadra 610 (with a full 68040, not the LC, woo!) and it’s filled with with surface-mount electrolytics.  None of them appear to be leaking, but they all gotta go because they’re from the Totally Horrible Capacitors era (I guess I’ll replace them with SMT ceramics … I just hate doing surface-mount soldering, so I’m procrastinating :-)
