I've seen several people ask on this list about the fabled miniroot tar
image referenced in the INSTALL document for 1.3:
miniroot.tar.gz A tar'ed and gzipped miniroot, unpack this to
get a small netbooted environment.
Well, there isn't one (at least not on ftp.netbsd.org and mirrors). I
just created one from the tk50-file2-13A tape image by dd'ing it to an
unused disk partition, mounting it and then tar'ing it. You can find it
at my "NetBSD/vax goodies" site at
ftp://ftp.bitcon.no/pub/NetBSD/BITCon/vax/
The full path to the gzip'ed miniroot tar image is:
ftp://ftp.bitcon.no/pub/NetBSD/BITCon/vax/snapshots/NetBSD-1.3/installat
ion/netboot/miniroot-1.3.tar.gz
When you extract it it unpacks into your current working directory.
I.e.:
cat miniroot-1.3.tar.gz | gunzip | (cd /usr/netboot/root; tar --unlink
-xvpf -)
Even though the kernel is a generic one, the kernel file is called
'netbsd', not 'gennetbsd', just like on the tk50-file2-13A tape image.
