Hi all you knowledgeable Vax people,
I've got a couple of irritations/problems with my MicroVax 3800:
Firstly, when I start up the Vax from cold, it produces the following
error after Test 31:
?53 2 05 FF 00 0000
P1=00000002 P2=00000028 P3=00000000 P4=00D45577 P5=00000000
P6=FFFFFFFF P7=00000000 P8=00000000 P9=00000000 P10=20051CE0
r0=00000001 r1=00000001 r2=00000053 r3=00000000 r4=00000002
r5=2004E8F9 r6=200551A9 r7=00000000 r8=00000000 ERF=00000000
It then finishes the other tests (up to 3), and says "Normal Operation
Not Possible". If I leave the Vax running for around 5 minutes, then
turn it off and on, it works fine. What could cause the problem, and
what exactly *are* the Test numbers (i.e. what does each test do)?
Secondly, with regards to netbooting NetBSD - the kernels seems to load
fine, but then it complains about nfs-timeouts. I read on a previous
post that giving nfsd the no-version 3 (or similar, don't have it to
hand) should work. However, nfsd doesn't accept the parameter. Is there
a hidden trick anywhere? Or am I missing something blatently obvious?
Also, I've got an RA90 and two RA81s (or so the console reports) set as
DUB0, DUB1 and DUB2. I don't have a DUAx drive as the hard disk was
dead, so I've taken it out. I need to install VMS on the RA90 (get some
data off the other drives). However, when I try to install the VMS tape
image, it complains about not being able to create the filesystem, and
that the medium is offline. Why? What can I do to rectify this? Can VMS
not be installed onto a DUB device; if not, how would I change the DUB
devices to DUA - is it just swapping some cables, or is there something
more in-depth to do?
Sorry for some (slightly) off-topic questions, but hopefully you people
should be able to help.
Regards,
Dan
