I've been toying with the 3100/M76 I picked up at the boneyard.  I cobbled
together an MMJ-to-DB25 cable.  Got it right the first time, which is rare
for me.  Mostly good news.  The disk doesn't seem to spin up though.  I'm
trying to boot the generic kernel that I grabbed from the FTP site today. =
