I've seen more than a couple in the same *room*, I got the impression they'd
made at least dozens of them. But I'm not sure how many escaped into the
field, I think the people who most enjoy running XKL hardware are XKL
employees. But that may be just fine, Bosack etc. have done pretty well
for themselves in the past and I imagine at this point they can build whatever
they damn well please, whether there's a market for it or not. That would
be a cute way to retire, spend a couple of decades re-doing your favorite
decade from your real career, but doing it better this time. Anyway what
they told me was that the part of the TOAD they were *really* proud of was
the flamingly fast bus, putting a PDP-10 CPU on it was just one example of
what it could be used for but they'd do whatever else the customers wanted.
So there may be some boxes out there with the nervous system of a TOAD, even
if they have a different brain.
