If you have the booting stuff for the VXT (should be freely available from
compaq, maybe in VMS backup format), you can use it as a fine X-terminal for
every Un*x platform. I used it for Solaris and NetBSD without any problems yet.

In addition to "usual" X-terminal features, it also talks LAT, which is useful
to use this as a colorful frontend to control a DECserver200 or a different
Terminalserver talking LAT. This is especially useful to work around the
problem of the DECserver 200 not knowing about TCP/IP. Just open 8 decterm
windows, one for every port, on your VXT and get full control :)

So hunt for a DECserver 200 or 300, and enjoy the fun of controlling all your
serial consoles from the VXT2000 :)
