I am a vax nut after a friend (few years ago) bought a whole pallet of
vax and decstations at a local auction for $1.
I try to downsize all my net apps to the lowest possible/best hardware
os requirement (and to have an excuse to run a vax).
I have a small home network for my wife and some friends web sites and
email accounts.
I run a Vaxen for several production services in my home network.
7 total in use
7 more as cold backups
1 vaxstation 3100/m48 - public dns
1 vaxstation 3100/m48 - internal vax software build box
1 vaxstation 3100/m76 - public ssh
1 vaxstation 3100/m76 - public sendmail,imap
1 vaxstation 4000/90 - internal dns
1 vaxstation 4000/90 - internal postgresql
1 vaxstation 4000/90 - security - intrusion detection and tripwire
I also have cold spares for the 4 vaxstation 3100's with identical
configurations to the production ones
I have a three more 3100/m48 that are currently sleeping as well. I do
keep a clean and current NetBSD release on them though.
The Vax bring me back to my geeky computer science college days at
Boston U from '87-'91. I have been a UNIX hack since then although I am
forced to deal with Intel and Windows/Linux for our clients.
