Hello,
> Am I missing somehing there ?
To answer my own question and to hopefully prevent others from
reinventing the wheel:
first stage bootloader of all the versions from ftp.netbsd.org I tried
is DEFECTIVE and doesn't work. At all. Even though I haven't tried all
~7 of them systematically I am pretty certain there is not a single
functional bootloader anywhere on ftp.netbsd.org so it is impossible to
install NetBSD/Vax using any of those trees (1.6.1 and up).
I found a functional bootloader (from 1.5.3 which was last functional
version) on one of German mirrors that still carries 1.5.3. Grab it
while you can (before they get around to culling the old directory trees
as well).
It would be really great if somebody could figure out why all those
bootloaders are defective and replace defective ones with a functional
copy; I'd make installations so much easier.
